J.Cole is in town this weekend for his tour that is making their scheduled stop in Philly. J. Cole will be joined by Big K.R.I.T. as the headliners for the "Campus Consciousness Tour." The concert will take place on April 28th at the Temple University Liacouras Center. The tour started on April 11th, at the University of Rhode Island, and will end at a private location in South Orange, New Jersey on May 4th. After much delay, J. Cole finally released his freshman album Cole World: The Sideline Story. Cole's album features some major singles like "Can't Get Enough" and "Nobody's Perfect" which features Missy Elliott. The multi- talented K.R.I.T. boasts the ability to rap and to produce tracks for others. The down south MC is also preparing for his debut release on Def Jam, Live From the Underground that will be released in June. Both artist have a clear purpose for this tour. J.Cole is promoting his album that is currently in stores and Big K.R.I.T. is promoting his album that will be in stores soon. Underground Philly artist STS will be one of the performers to open the show tonight, as he continues to create his buzz in the area. He gets straight to the point on the song of hisDaughter Destiny becoming loose in her decision making, leading to her open sexual expression. He admits that his past and social status could play a part in her behavior and vowed to accept all that comes along with the territory.

Honest in his speaking Nas always looks to embrace confrontational issues, and that's just what we have here. News broke today that his daughter's mother Carmen Bryan was very upset with the song. She took to twitter(@CarmenBryan) to express herself saying "Just heard "Daughters" by Nas. What a disappointment! He had nothing positive to say about our daughter and his depiction of her is false!"
As a result Carmen found herself defending her position on twitter when many Nas supporters responded and disagreed with her statement.
To me it appeared that Nas cares very much for his daughter. He appears fearful of losing the connection he once had with her. Sounds like he wants her to be an independent thinker and not succumb to the same street life that called his name. Soo finally the NFL draft day has come. Die hard football fans are eagerly awaiting to see their favorite teams' pick. We are almost sure that Andrew Luck and RG3 will go in the top two spots. Possibly the next 12 spots could be accounted for as well, but what about the 15th pick? The Eagles stand to have a chance at a solid player this year should they chose wisely. Soo on this segment of story telling, we chose a rapper who may not be as popular as the previous ones selected, nonetheless his story was both heart felt and inspirational at the same time. The track "Follow My Lead" which was featured on Budden's Mood Muzik 4 mixtape has a religious/spiritual feel to it as Joe shares his thoughts on his values and belief system. Actually the song takes a left turn contrasting to what Joe had be representing previously. He quickly expresses his frustration with all the ills that come along with the life of an rap entertainer. For much of the song Budden seems to speak to God directly, pleading his case of loneliness and sorrow. Drugs and Alcohol appears to be how he was handling his stress thus far. The video captures his thoughts showing scenes of him: in the church making confession, frustrated with continuous nightlife partying and his attempt to reconcile with his girlfriend.
To be clear, in no way are we here to say which religion is the way to go. We felt the message here was valuable to the listener, being that many rap artists may shy away or keep private their religious/spiritual beliefs. The message could serve as motivation to the youth about holding one' s self accountable to the decisions they make.
Whether or not Joe was able to make a complete lifestyle change is unknown. We do respect the fact that he was at least conscious of the choices he has made in his past, leading him to take his emotions public. A common battle we all have to deal with when that inner voice of righteousness starts to get louder. Maybe this was his attempt to ask for help, as he seemed to be concerned with salvation and how he will be judged by the most high.

After the recent financial success of the photo sharing Instagram app, investors are lining up for the next app to blow up. Jay-Z and Will Smith have been named, as being apart of a group of investors who have endorsed the new IPhone app Viddy. Viddy works similar to Instagram, with the only difference being sharing short videos instead of photographs. The Viddy video sharing app is already a success, with over "10 million registered users" and over 300,000 new users daily. Viddy is also the App of the Week in the Apple app store. The founder of Viddy, Brett O’Brien, said that the celebrities will help to increase the “it factor” of the app. With the use of mobile technology on the rise, investments into smartphone applications is not a bad move. The 23-year-old division champion Jon Jones will look to defend his Light-Heavyweight belt against 32-year-old contender Rashad Evans. A no holds bar match between two relentless warriors who just so happen to be former/friends, that will provide non-stop action and maybe even some drama. Soo just who do you like tonight?
When comparing the two physically its Jones' height and reach that makes him difficult for any opponent. He has proven in the pass that he can adjust during the fight to regain leverage. Evans on the other hand, seems to lead with with precision. Many of his previous fights has highlighted his ability to plan and execute. The order of the list could come as a surprise to some, as people may not be as rich as you thought they were lol. Sean "Diddy" Combs is top on the Forbes list with a estimated net worth of $550 million. It was noted that Diddy's endeavors outside of "Bad Boy Ent" aided in him claiming the top spot on the Forbes Five. Puffy's Ciroc vodka was a definite money maker in 2011 as it became the number one vodka for hip-hop fans. Jay-Z came in at number two with a estimated worth of $450 million. With the sale of Rocawear in 2007 for $204 million; a 10-year deal with Live Nation for $150 million; his part ownership in the New Jersey Nets, and his 40/40 Club, Hova continues to "run his town." West coast veteran rapper/producer Dr Dre was number three on the list, with a net worth of over $270 million. Dr Dre made a drastic jump up the forbes list with the sale of his Beats Electronics headphones/audio business. Last year cell phone maker HTC paid $300 million to buy a 51% stake in Beats Electronics, the company founded by Dr. Dre and Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine in 2008. Soo if you are an active 76er fan, its a good chance you have been on an emotional roller coaster damn near all season. The first half of the season was prideful, intense and exciting. Particularly the last month was the play has been repugnant, frustrating and now borderline embarrassing. Everybody seems to be asking the same question, What the Hell Is The Problem?? The record and their playoff position has been slipping like a bad transmission(lol). In our previous Sixers After The Break article we examined on what we felt some of the problems were. A stable offense with no real go-to guy, a bench rotation that needs some consistency and of course injuries.

The highly anticipated Sparkle movie trailer has been released to the public. Whitney Houston fans have been on the lookout for this trailer, as it is officially her last film before her tragic death. The Sparkle film is loaded with a star studded cast. The starring cast is as followed:Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green and Tika Sumpter. The movie is about "three sisters who form a successful singing group, and now must deal with the pressure of fame and drugs." The film is directed by Salim Akil, with the soundtrack being produced by R. Kelly. Sparkle is expected to be in movie theaters on August 17th.

Soo sometimes two people can prove that they have real good business chemistry. That could be said about the relationship between Director Lee Daniels and Entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey. There history goes back to the 2009 film Precious in which Daniels directed and Oprah executive produced, the film was a dramatic success, later earning the director a Grammy nomination. Just recently the two have untied again, only this time Oprah will be right in front of the scenes.
The film is titled The Butler, and is set to start filming in New Orleans sometime in July. The film tells a true story of a man(Eugene Allen) who served several decades in the White House. Veteran actor Forest Whitaker will play the butler, giving the audience an inside view of whats its like to serve the president first hand. Oprah plays the role of his wife creating some Curiosity and excitement being that she hasn't acted in a film since the 1998 film Beloved, which she also produced. Very much fond of their relationship Daniels stated "She was looking for something and we're friendly and we were just trying to figure out the right thing."

This should get some good reviews being that both parties always put their best foot forward in all of their work. I'm also curios to see what one saw while he served our country's leaders. I don't expect all the details to make the cut, but I expect Daniels to paint a good picture.
Soo maybe its true that they just don't make classic comedy movies anymore, however its certain characters that will live on forever. What actor Clifton Powell has able to create on the movie screen has been priceless. Just in case you didn't know(lol) Pinky enters the scene as an emotional disgruntled Pimp who openly expresses his love for the color Pink. He keeps it G tho wearing all tailor made suits with the longest pink crocs you ever seen. Sunglasses and a Jerry Curl completes his presentation. He seems to have a love/hate relationship with his limo driver CW, who appears to be immune to the verbal abuse Pinky gives out. Cognac is the preffered drink here and both parties seemed to be feeling it(lol). Check out his Debut in Next Friday.

Mary J Blige is under fire for her participation in a recent Burger King commercial. Last week the fast food chain released their latest "Chicken Wrap" commercial on YouTube. The commercial displayed R&B queen Mary J. Blige, singing at a B.K. restaurant, about a "Chicken Wrap." After the release of the ad, the African-American community felt like the commercial was racially offensive. Burger King felt the heat from complaining customers, and decided not to air the commercial on television.
Historically, black folks have been racially linked to foods like:"black eyed peas, watermelon and fried chicken." With Mary J. Blige being a prominent figure for the African-American community,one would question her decision to participate in the ad. It is believed that Blige was paid $2 million for her part in the commercial. After viewing the commercial I immediately recognized why someone would find the ad to have a racial tone. Mary J. Blige and her management should have been more conscious about the suject, and sensitivity of the matter. I don't believe that Mary J. sold out, but bad judgement will cost her a few fans.

Dropping yet another single off of his debut album with the same title Sideline Story, J Cole continues to give the public the real story behind his success. His lyrics always express passion and hunger while he explains his journey from watching the game to actually having the opportunity to play. Its no secret that he comes from the south but he proudly shares that he was able to adapt to the fast pace New York lifestyle, ultimately landing him a deal with Rocnation. Seems like he is prepared to finish this game out strong.
Soo Philly's own Meek Mill has just released the video to his version of Drake'sThe Ride. The freestyle is titled Faded Too Long, the phrase can be heard on the hook being sung by Canada native TheWeeknd. Meek lets his guard down on this one, showing some emotion of his criticism by the justice system. He shares his feelings on the sad state of poverty on the Philadelphia streets remembering his struggles some years ago as he desperately tried to elevate. Kanye continues to add talent to his G.O.O.D. Music roster. West's latest signee is legendary hip-hop rapper/producer Q-Tip. Q-Tip is a founding member of legendary hip-hop group "A Tribe Called Quest." Q-Tip celebrated his 42 birthday yesterday and more than likely this news was apart of the celebrating. Q-Tip is not rapping as much these days, so his role with the label will more than likely be to make beats. Kanye and Q-Tip have worked together in the past on numerous projects. Tip produced “Chain Heavy,” a single from the series of tracks during West’s G.O.O.D. Fridays in 2010. He also is credited with work done on West’s latest solo effort "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and produced “That’s My Bitch,” featured on West’s 2011 collab album with Jay-Z Watch the Throne. Rapper 2 Chainz made hip-hop fans aware of a "Bently Truck" possibly existing. During his verse in Jeezy's single "Superfreak," 2 Chainz went on to say, "When they gonna make that Bentley truck???" 2 Chainz has been granted his wish; well not exactly. Since its unveiling at the "Geneva Auto Show," fans have been raving about the new Bentley concept "EXP 9 F." The EXP 9 F is a concept car, meaning it was created to gauge interest and gain feedback. So basically it's not available for purchase yet. The EXP 9 F is being called a SUV/Truck, but looks more like a wagon. The "truck" sports all the rich amenities of a Bentley vehicle, while offering a tailgating option. The price tag for this prototype was not yet made available. The Americans For Cambodia have made a commitment to do just that. The group stands to promote awareness on the poverty and the injustice that is taking place in Cambodia. To promote the movement along with gaining supporters, the group has organized the 1st Annual Americans For Cambodia Block Party. The Block Party was created by the group to celebrate the Cambodian New Year(Chaul Chnam Thmey in the Khmer language). The holiday lasts for three days beginning on New Year's day, which usually falls on April 13 or 14th, which is the end of the harvesting season, when farmers enjoy the fruits of their labor before the rainy season begins.
Americans For Cambodia invites all to attend the block party scheduled for this coming Saturday April 14th at 2013 South Bucknell St. 19145. The fun will last all day in celebration of the New Year. It shall be a great environment for the kids to gather and enjoy the music and the games.
As an adult one definitely will be tempted to participate in ritual dancing, in celebration of the new year. This can also be viewed as a community building activity as well, in hopes that many relationships can be built through networking.

Recently I had the pleasure to view the groundbreaking documentary titled Hidden Colors(2011), which gives insight on the untold story of people of color around the world. The film discusses some of the reasons why the contributions of African and aboriginal people have been left out the pages of history.
Film maker Tariq Nasheed traveled the country to speak with scholars, historians, and social commentators who all seemed very pleased to share their thoughts and facts on controversial issues such as: The real reason slavery ended, The original image of Christ, The Afican influence in Europe and The true story about the Moors.
The film features some powerful speakers who definitely have the credentials to participate on the debate. The cast includes Dr. Booker T. Coleman, Dr. Phil Valentine, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, Dr. Umar Johnson(Millersville University Alumni) and Shahrazad Ali.
