In Living Color Resurrected???

As a child growing up I always looked forward to two nights for viewing television. The first night being Thursday's to watch "Martin," and the other being Sunday's to watch "In Living Color." "In Living Color" premiered in the early 90's, becoming a smash hit for five seasons thanks to memorable characters like Homey D. Clown (Damon Wayans) and Fire Marshall Bill (Jim Carrey). The trail-blazing, 1990s sketch comedy show will be returning to Fox this season, according to several reports. Keenen Ivory Wayans, who created and starred on the original show, will serve as host and executive producer. The deal is for two half-hour specials that will air mid season, in honor of FOX's 25th anniversary. Reports added that the deal includes an option to add "In Living Color" as a regular series again next season. Don't expect to see the original cast of stars like: The Wayans, Carrey, Foxx, Davidson or David Alan Grier come back for more jokes. Wayans plans to offer the show with a whole new cast of comedians.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Getting A Divorce???

It looks like this reality TV marriage will be over before it ever really started. The relationship seemed to be forced in the first place, with Kim thirsty to find a man to settle down with. Reggie Bush and Miles Austin already fell victim to this reality TV superstars fame. It only took 72 days for Kris Humphries to become the next victim. Reports say that the two will officially become single again today(Halloween) with Kim stating, "irreconcilable differences " as reason for separation. Kardashian and Humphries relationship/wedding was all another ploy to boost ratings for the television show. Most viewers will tell you that their relationship did not look to be authentic and it was all a game.

"The Black List"...Now A Smithsonian Exhibit

Soo just in case you didn't know, The Smithsonian Musuem in Washignton, Dc  now has 50 large-scale portraits of our prominent African American figures in the National Potrait Gallery. The most notable or popular figures are Sean "Diddy" Combs, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and Serena Williams. Other prominent figures include Samuel L. Jackon, Tyler Perry and Colin Powell.
The project was created by photographer/filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, along with Elvis Mitchell, a public radio host and former New York Times film critic, which also included a 2008 HBO film. The two decided that these individuals were to represent the African American people in entertainment, politics, sports and business in the 20th century.

 The term "blacklist" is a historical term used to refer to a marginalized group.
"The Black List Volume 1" premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2008 and then in August of that year on HBO. "The Black List Volume 2" came in 2009 followed by "The Black List Volume 3" in 2010. While there is a smaller display in New York, the Smithsonian exhibit is the first to feature all 50 portraits.

Comedian Patrice O'Neal Suffers A Stroke

Veteran comedian Patrice O'Neal suffered a stroke last week and remains hospitalized according to reports. O'Neal has made several appearances on Comedy Central shows, and is known for being a talented stand-up comedian. O'Neal joined other comedians, on Comedy Central's recent roast of Charlie Sheen. During the Sheen Roast some of the comics made fun of Patrice's weight all in fun. We wish Mr. O'Neal a full and speedy recovery. Led Astray?: Bishop Eddie Long Sued Again

Soo once again the famous religious leader Bishop Eddie Long, head of New Birth Missionary Church in Atlanta, Ga has made headlines for allegedly misleading 9 members of his congregation to invest in a Ponzi scheme that stole at least $1 million of their savings. We sure hope this isn't true Mr. Eddie, especially being as though the Bishop just settled out of court with four young men who had accused him of pressuring them into sexual relationships. He nor the church needs any more negative publicity.

The lawsuits states that in October 2009, Bishop Long introduced Ephren Taylor Jr. to the congregation as a minister/entrepreneur representing City Capital Corp. Taylor was there to speak at the week-long seminar the church was having called the "Wealth Tour Live." Members stated that Bishop vouched on Taylor's behalf, as Taylor urged members to make investments with him and his business, for he was guaranteeing a good return on their money. They said Taylor backed his plan up by saying that his investments findings were not related to the stock market so the members did not have to worry.

Well we all know how this story ends, apparently Taylor was not licensed to sell investments and his Company City Capital Corp had no financial means to pay out any returns. Plaintiff Lillian Wells who has been a member of the church for over 20 years said that after Bishop Long supported Taylor she invested $122,000 of her retirement savings. Since then Wells has lost her job and she is facing foreclosure on her home.  In defense Taylor has stated to the press “Don’t assume that I am just another greedy businessman, I am taking action to make things right.”  Innocent till proven guilty right?? International Soul...

Soo we decided to travel abroad for some soulful inspiration. The voice of Adele Laurie Blue Adkins seems to give her listeners just that. She goes by the stage name Adele. Born on May 5th 1988 in London, England. Adele started singing when she was four years old and grew up idolizing the famous group The Spice Girls. When she was 11 her mother moved her to West Norwood, South London. Her experiences in this neighborhood led her to write her first song when she was 16 titled "Hometown Glory." While she studied artists like Mary J Blige and Aaliyah, It was Pink's performance of 'Missundazstood" at the Brixton Academy that really fueled her energy towards professional singing.


Eventually Reaching her goals to become a successful singer/songwriter, Adele has released 2 albums tittled 19(2008) and 21(2011). 21 hit number 1 in 18 countries, including the United States. Both albums seem to touch various genres of music including Soul, Country Soul, Classical, Blues and Pop. Her skills set with instruments includes the playing the guitar, piano, bass, keyboard and percussion. In 2009 at the 51st Grammy Awards she won the Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award. 

Adele's music has touched many hearts all over the world. She is currently working on a new album where she plans to write and produce the entire album. She stated "It won't be a big production. I want it to be quite acoustic and piano-led."  Some feel as tho Adele sounds better live than on recordings, so we gave a clip of both, to let you form your own opinion. On top is her live on the Letterman Show. Sunday Discussion: Is Modern Technology Our Youths Downfall???

Most kids from my generation (early 1980's) probably said this to their parents before, "I'm bored." Most parents responses back then, would be to "use your imagination." Using your imagination is not a tool utilized anymore by most of today's youth. Children nowadays have many different avenues to keep themselves entertained, without being physically active or challenged mentally. Video games, internet usage and listening to music are today's preferred entertainment choices for youth in our society. Working with and around children everyday I see several electronic devices being used within a school setting. Mp3 players and mobile phone usage is at a all time high within classrooms. If a child has access to the internet, they most likely are looking to gain access to their favorite video or social media site. The attention to lessons and assignments are lacking as students focus are else where. Most households today have at least one computer and video game device. I ask kids everyday what they do when they go home and their response is always the same. "I watched TV," "I played my game," or my favorite... "I was on the internet" (all before going to bed).  Nowadays, parents have to beg their kids to go outside. That wasn't the case 10-15 years ago. With electronics holding kids hostage within the household, the days of going outside and having fun are over. No more: "hide and seek,"... no more "freeze tag"... and no more "catch a girl-freak a girl"... lol just kidding but you get my point. Parents must monitor the time spent on electronic devices and preserve a lost past time... Send your kids back outside!!!

Kardashian A Hollywood Actress...??

Soo if you are a Kim Kardashian fan you are now delighted to see she has added acting to her celebrity resume. Reports have it written that your girl Kim has been selected by Tyler Perry to star in his new movie release "The Marriage Counselor."  Congrats Kim, as somehow you continue to find a way remain relevant in all media...Simply unbelievable(lol).  This selection is quite ironic to us being as though, divorce rumors have been surfacing on the web for the newly wed.  Marriage Counseling of any kind couldn't have come at a better time for the star.

Kim will be starring as Ava the co-worker of marriage counselor Judith (Jurnee Smollett) who seems to have problems of her own as her own marriage is on the rocks.  Ava serves as a confiding friend who doesn't mind going out her way to help the struggling Judith.

The critics probably cant wait for this one being that Kim has not had much Hollywood experience. Judging by her character and what you saw from her reality show, do you believe she can eventually become a leading role actress??

Does Shia LaBeouf need anger management???... The Transformers superstar was recently in a brawl at a local bar in Vancouver, CA.. Witnesses reported to the media, that LaBeouf was in a heat exchange with a patron inside the bar. After leaving the bar, witnesses said that the patron spotted LaBeouf near a cab, and began to punch the star in his face. This is not the first time the actor has caught a "two piece" to the grill. This past February, LaBeouf got into a fight with another patron at a Calif. bar. Witnesses there reported LaBeouf took punches to the face, before being separated and detained by the police. Maybe Shia LeBeouf thinks Bumble Bee is waiting outside whenever he decides to pop off... lol

McDonald's Adds Television To Their Menu...

Soo it appears now that the fast food chain giant McDonald's, is looking to keep you entertained once you step foot into the restaurant. They are looking to add a television channel that will display original content, including local news, youth sports and various entertainment topics. The project will start off as a trial run, the new McTV(lol) will feature in select stores in California over the next couple of months, with plans to spread to over 800 stores in the region. Upon success, the McTV could reach every store in the nation.
To ensure quality content, McDonald's has partnered with BBC America and a California ABC news affiliate for the launch.

This project could be viewed as a creative attempt to increase advertising profits. With more than 33,000 restaurants in over 100 countries, they definitely have the platform to feed all their select ads to their growing consumer base.  This new installation should only add to the comfortable homely feel that Micky Ds has been desperately trying to produce for some years now. They already have installed Wi-Fi in many of the stores, and the popular children's PlayPlace seems to always be in the renovation plans.

Soo how does this sound to you? Sounds like McDonald's slowly but surely wants to distant themselves from the fast food restaurant label. They are indeed planning to evolve into a jazzy stop and go lounge, a place that the family can spend a good amount of time.

Soulja Boy Busted On Drug Charges

Soulja Boy was busted early Tuesday morning for possession of marijuana during a routine traffic stop in Atlanta. At the time of the incident DeAndre Cortez Way (Soulja Boy) was said to be in possession of drugs, guns and $70,000 in cash. Soulja Boy and 4 other men were riding in a Escalade at the time they were stopped. Everyone in the car was arrested and taken to Carroll County Jail in Georgia. Soulja Boy spent the night in jail and was released the next day. After being released the young rapper expressed his innocence and his gratitude to his fans. Was this all a publicity stunt for the a guy who is scheduled to release a new movie and album soon???

Wish You Were Still Here...Curtis Mayfield

Soo this week we chose to remember a legendary singer/composer who gave inspiration to many of our soulful singers today. Curtis Lee Mayfield was born on June 3, 1942 in Chicago Illinois. As a kid Curtis experienced life on the cold streets of Chicago, his mother had moved the family around quite a bit until they settled in at the Cabrini-Green projects. In 1956 at the age of 16 Curtis dropped out of high school to take his music career serious. He decided to joined the group called The Roosters led by singer Jerry Butler. In 1958 the group became The Impressions after the addition of Sam Gooden. The group biggest hit was titled "For Your Precious Love." After the departure of Jerry Butler Curtis became the lead singer and composer.

During the late 1960s Curtis began to voice his support to black pride and racial inequality through his music.  His big hit during this time titled "Were a Winner" quickly gained attention in the black community and served as a black pride anthem for the activists and supporters at that time. "Keep On Pushing" and "People Get Ready" were also popular songs during the civil right movement, as they were the songs of choice during all the rallies and marches.

In 1970 Curtis left the Impressions to start his solo career, he founded the independent record label Curtom Records. It was through this label Curtis would produce the bulk of his work, also producing for other artists on the label as well. He reached his commercial pinnacle when he dropped his famous album Super Fly the soundtrack to the classic Black Film starring Ron Oneal. His top singles "Freddie's Dead" and "Superfly" each sold a million copies. His distinctive falsetto tone and crafty guitar play kept his listeners captivated as they hung to every note. Mayfield received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 1999.

He would die on December 26, 1999 at the North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, Georgia.
Curtis was truly more than a musician, he shared the struggle of all minorities fighting for justice in America in the 60s and 70s. We Wish You Were Still Here...

Jahlil Beats is a New Member Of Roc Nation

PA's(Chester) own, Jahlil Beats recently signed a deal with Roc Nation as a producer. Jahlil Beats is known for working with Philly's own Meek Mill on most of his projects. Some will tell you Jahlil is responsible for Meek signing a record deal with Rick Ross's MMG label after producing several beats for the rising artist. Jahlil explained in a recent XXL article that, there was a bidding war between six record labels for his services.  The producer decided to sign with Roc Nation because he felt like they were a established brand and they allowed him creative control over his own projects. Jahlil Beats has worked with several artist along the way and stated this in his recent XXL piece...

I did like 90% of Jim Jones’s Vampire Life album,” he says. “I did like 90% of Bow Wow’s Underrated album. I’m working on Fab’s album. I’m working on stuff with Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Willow, Jaden Smith. I got like four joints on Red Café’s album that’s dropping in February. I’m working with Soulja Boy, Tyga. I’m working with so many cats. Meek got so many tracks from me. That’s a given. I’m working on my own stuff, too. It’s a mixtape. I’m spitting.

We expect to hear many more Beats from Jahlil, as he is now the go to producer in the "game."

Will and Jada Apart Of New 76ers Ownership

Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith are now minority owners of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team. Will Smith will play the same role for the Sixers that Jay-Z does for the soon to be Brooklyn Nets. This is a major development as Will Smith has strong Philly ties, being raised here. News broke today about the Smith's being partners with the ownership group lead by multi-billionaire Joshua Harris. There was a press conference held this morning to introduce the new ownership group, but the smith's were not present.  The NBA board of governors recently approved the sale of the team from Comcast Spectorcor to the new owners. The new ownership has already decided to let current GM Ed Stefanski find new employment elsewhere as he is no longer apart of the plans moving forward with the team. The new CEO of the Sixers Adam Aron announced that 9,000 seats at the Wells Fargo Center, ticket prices will be reduced by more than 50%... Now this is what I call change.

Can You Keep This Secret...?

Soo in this present time with all the financial and emotional turmoil that is occurring, I think its safe to say that consistent positive thinking can be viewed as a therapeutic remedy. Some people have figured this out already producing a movie titled "The Secret." Many authors in the business sector have included this belief system in their books. Napoleon Hill makes this topic an important chapter in his book "Think and Grow Rich." In the book he challenges his readers to alter their way of thinking if they wish to obtain the riches they desire. At one of his seminars, he stated "When one says to himself  I can not afford an object, the brain immediately shuts down. Batman!?!?...No, A Blackman

Soo apparently crime fighting has become an attractive hobby for some(lol). This morning in Seattle a self proclaimed super hero who goes by the name "Phoenix Jones" appeared in court wearing a charcoal-colored mask and a black and yellow Kevlar top. While in court he was forced to remove his mask and reveal his true identity. This man's real name is Benjamin John Francis Fodor. The 23 year old  was arrested Sunday, after police say he pepper sprayed a group of people downtown as they left a nightclub. Fodor begs to differ, as he stated he went to break up the fight only to be attacked by members of the group. He spent about seven hours in jail before posting $3,800 bail.  The Prosecution has not filed any charges as of yet, and they ask for more time on making a decision to do so. 

As for dedication, Phoenix Jones proudly provided this statement "I will continue to patrol with my team, probably tonight. In addition to being Phoenix Jones, I am also Ben Fodor, father and brother. I am just like everybody else. The only difference is that I try to stop crime in my neighborhood and everywhere else."
 Jones also claims he's the leader of the Rain City Superhero Movement, which has performed late-night patrols in Seattle since last year.

Septa Not Paying For Fake Injuries???

Septa officials are working with city procescutors to limit fake injury claims on or around SEPTA vehicles.  Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams and SEPTA general manager Joseph Casey said Thursday that they are utilizing surveillance cameras on Septa vehicles to stop riders from recieving large settlemets for injuries that are not real. During the press conference a video displayed a man running to get on a Septa bus that was involved in a accident, so he could claim a back injury. Another video displayed a women and her six year old duughter faking injuries after the bus they were on was in a minor accident.
SEPTA pays out about $40 million a year in accident claims,with payouts have rising by more than 10 percent in the past two years, according to Casey. So for those folks that fake injuries on Septa transportation, your chances of winning your case will be slim.

Faulty Blackberry???

If you are a Blackberry owner, you're probably wondering why you couldn't receive any messages
or emails today... The reason being Blackberry suffered its biggest outage in years because of a failed infrastructure.  Blackberry users across the world felt the impact from this outage as they could not utilize internet or messaging on their devices. Africa, Asia and Europe have encountered the issues as well, with most of their Blackberry's failing over the last 72 hrs. This is a bad time for RIM (Blackberry Manufacture) to encounter such difficulty with their system, while Apple is set to release its newest IPhone 4S. With the competition increasing rapidly Blackberry may be on its way out.

Tonight BET will launch its latest sitcom titled Reed Between The Lines at 10pm E.T. The leading characters are Dr. Carla Reed, a busy therapist/wife played by Tracee Ellis Ross and Dr. Alex Reed, a university professor/husband played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The story is about the two successful parents raising their young family, giving the viewers an insight on all the comes with the territory of trying to balance your career and your household. Both actors have pretty good resume experience, Malcom Jamal Warner comes from the classic Black family show 'The Cosby Show" and Tracee Ellis Ross starred on the hit show "Girlfriends." Ross will serve as co-executive producer along with Arthur Harris; the pilot was written by Kellie Griffin. Also added to the cast was Anna Maria Horsford playing Helen Wilson(Ms. Helen) from the favorable show "Amen." The cast called into WDASs' morning show with Patty Jackson this morning to give listeners a feel for their off the set character. They all agreed that the show is a must see, and this type of family structure should be promoted more on television.  Anna Maria Horsford went on a little further using her soulful comedy to create laughs from her peers. Upcoming Book Release...Shaq Uncut: "My Story"

Soo here's one guy you just cant seem to forget. He wont let you(lol). Shaquille O'Neal is as famous as they come as an entertainer and a sports figure. He has been very efficient during his NBA tenture  racking up 28,596 career points (including 5,935 free throws!), 13,099 rebounds, 3,026 assists, 2,732 blocks, and 15 All-Star appearances.
The 4time NBA Champion has now decided to put the basketball down for good, now he will look to entertain by telling you his side of the story. In the book Shaq discusses his remarkable journey, including his candid thoughts on teammates and coaches like Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, Phil Jackson, and Pat Riley. From growing up in difficult circumstances and getting cut from his high school basketball team to his larger-than-life basketball career.  Shaq decided to sit down with long time sportswriter author Jackie Macmullan and relive some magic. Shaq stated in an interview “She knew things that I’d forgotten about, We were sitting at the house talking; we meet twice a week for three hours. She asks me questions, and I ‘ve got to dig in my old Shaq-o-dex. I’m like, ‘That’s 13 years ago.’ It should be a very exciting book — no holds barred. ‘Tell-all’ wouldn’t be the correct term. ‘Truthful’ would be the better term.”

The book is scheduled to be released on November 15th 2011.

The Blame Game...DWade Vs David Stern

Soo in the world of NBA CBA talks, word has gotten around that the negotiation meetings have started to "heat" up as of last week. Speaking of Heat, DWade was present along with a few other big name from the league. Wade felt as though he needed to take a verbal stance in this particular meeting.  ESPN reporter Ric Bucher tweeted that a source informed him that David Stern had been pointing his finger at the players while speaking in the meeting. This is when apparently Wade shouted "Your not point your finger at me. I'm not your child."  Reports said the heated exchange eventually led to the superstars busting out of the meeting seemingly dissatisfied. The players were eventually calmed down by union chief Billy Hunter, and they agreed to return to the meeting. The players appear to be serious about their position in this matter, New Orleans superstar point guard Chris Paul added, that the players are prepared to sit out a year if necessary to avoid making any more scarifies. Stay tuned, as this issue will be burning over the next few days.

16th Anniversary For Million Man March Held In Philly...

Do you remember back on October 16th 1995 when the Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan, organized a march in Washington D.C. calling over 1 million black men to discuss their issues of abandonment in the household and their role in the inner city community? Of course you do, for that day received heavy attention from the media being that the numbers were great. Individuals from all walks of life and creeds were present to participate in history. The Day of Atonement ignited many men to prosper in their own lives and to offer support to whatever each person was dealing with.
This year the event will be held at the in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention center. The schedule will run from the weekend of OCT. 7-9. Oct. 7-8 will feature various workshops and community building activities that prepare the followers for the anticipated conference held by the Minister Louis Farrakhan at 2pm on Oct. 9th. The Minister Ishmael R. Muhammad, an assistant to Farrakhan stated that "It was Philadelphia that brought over 150,000 black men to the march 16 years ago, this is a historical city, and it is just fitting that so much has come out of Philadelphia as it relates to the success of the march."  Farrakhan had visited Philadelphia before the march to meet with union leaders, Black elected officials, Black clergy and many of the civic and grass roots leaders, that helped get the large number to the march. In a time of distress and turmoil maybe a unified event could spark some positive conclusions and plans that may help our community.
It is not our intent to promote any rituals or religion, we are simply passing the news of a historical event that once made history and shall forever be remembered.

Eddie Murphy To Make SNL Cameo???

Rumor has it that Eddie Murphy is in talks with Saturday Night Live on the possibility of a "cameo" return to the show. The cameo could be made as early as today as Ben Stiller is set to host tonight's episode. Stiller and Murphy both are starring in the new release movie Tower Heist (not yet in theaters.) Murphy starred in the long running sketch comedy show during the early 1980's. Murphy is know for his famous SNL characters: Buckwheat, Gumby, Mr. Robinson, and James Brown. Murphy left SNL after four seasons and began a lucrative movie career. Murphy has only hosted SNL once since his departure from the show in 1984. It has been speculated over the years of Murphy having a falling out with producers, after a David Spade skit mocked the veteran comedians career. Murphy even passed on a return for the shows 25th anniversary party in 1999. If and when Murphy makes his return to SNL, it will be, and have been a long time coming.

Vick to Break Cunningham Rushing Record

Micheal Vick is on the verge of breaking Randall Cunningham's all-time QB rushing record. Vick currently sits with 4,858 rushing yards and only needs 70 more to take over the top spot. Cunningham rushed for 4,928 yards during his 16 year career. Eagles fans have seen three of the top rushing QB's of all-time including Donovan McNabb. McNabb currently has 3,455 rushing yards, making him sixth all-time. During a recent interview Vick stated that as a child, Randall Cunningham was one of his role models . He also had this to say...

 "I just remember Randall being very elusive and being able to make plays that a lot of QBs at the time couldn’t make, with his legs,” Vick said. “And you know, it kind of changed the dynamics of the game and what he could do for his football team. So, you know, I tried to emulate that and just tried to keep plays alive with my legs."

While Vick will be focused on a win over the Bills Sunday, Cunningham will be hoping to hold the record for another week.

Oakland Raiders Owner Al Davis Has Died

Long time Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis passed away today. Davis was 82 years of age. Davis is most known for relocating the Raiders from Oakland to Los Angles then back to Oakland. The Raiders’ colors, silver and black, were chosen by Davis to intimidate the opponents. As was their logo, a shield displaying the image of a pirate in a football helmet in front of crossed sabers. The Raiders team motto, coined by Mr. Davis “Just win, baby!”  was reflected by the hard nosed style of play he encouraged, featuring brutal physicality on defense with speed and long passing on offense. Davis employed Hall of Famer John Madden as head coach of the Raiders, from 1969-1978. Madden went on to win a Super Bowl during the span. Al Davis also was not afraid to hire minority coaches (Art Shell and Hue Jackson) to lead his team. We here at I'm Just Saying... want to send our condolences to the Davis and Raider family...
