Amazon Looks To Dominate The Tablet Game

Amazon has made a huge power move with the recent unveiling of The Kindle Fire tablet. The Fire tablet offers the same abilities as the Apple Ipad and will now become its biggest competitor. On the fringe tablet makers like Barnes and Nobles (Nook) and Blackberry (Playbook) were not happy to hear of the unveiling of the new Amazon product. Apple will also feel the affects of the Kindle Fire as the product will be $300.00 cheaper than the Ipad. The Kindle Fire will retail at $199.99 making it the most affordable tablet on the market. Blackberry applied a 40% price drop to their Playbook tablet, immediately after Amazon made its big announcement on Sept. 28th. Cole World: The Sideline Story...

Soo here it is, the debut solo album from J-Cole title Cole World: The Sideline Story available in stores as of Sept. 27th 2011(Click here for bio on J-Cole). The album has been heavily anticipated for some time now by the conscious community and the mainstream as well being that he is a protege of Jay-Z . Cole is signed to Roc Nation/Columbia. It has been reported on Billboard.com that the 26 year old emcee could sell up to 250,000 units in his first week, if so it will mark the first time a solo act's debut album has bowed at No. 1 since May 14, 2010. The album features Jay-Z, Trey Songz, Drake and Missy Elliot. The album has recieved some good reviews already for its tight lyrics and upper level production. A Move The Eagles Need To Make

The Eagles defense is in need of a athletic, aggressive, play-maker at the linebacker position. One just may be available in Seattle. Former 2009 4th overall pick Aaron Curry is said to be available for the right offer after being benched by the Seattle coaching staff. Curry was touted as the best defensive player in the 2009 NFL draft after leaving Wake Forrest. It is said that Curry; who was not drafted by the current regime, fell out of favor with Pete Carroll and the coaching staff. Curry would make a immediate impact on the Eagles defense, as he would be a upgrade over any linebacker on the roster. The eagles current line-backing core are struggling against the run and in coverage. The Eagles recently benched rookie LB Casey Matthews, as he failed to display instincts and confidence on the field. Matthews is being replaced by another rookie, 6th round pick Brian Rolle. Rolle displayed promise in the preseason showing good cover skills against Tight Ends and Running Backs. Curry could benefit from a change of scenery, and Philadelphia is the right destination. Andy Reid and Co. should not wait to make a move on a LB of Curry's caliber. Get the deal done... Now!!!

The Hunt For Red October

The Philadelphia Phillies ended the season after sweeping the Atlanta Braves... Exactly the kind of momentum the team needed heading into the post season.  After clinching their 5th straight N. L. East title on Sept 17th., the team went on a 8 game losing streak. Fans were questioning manager Charlie Manuel's  decision to rest his starters, until the Braves series. Die hard fans can breathe easy now that the playoffs are here and the hunt for red October has begun. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt (The 4 Aces) are the key to the Phillies winning their second world championship in four years. The team won 102 games this season(a franchise record) and that is due in part to the experience of the pitching staff. Players like Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard and Chase Utley provide veteran leadership; displaying that hard nosed, blue collar Philly mentality on the field.  This post season will provide all the excitement that the playoffs bring so enjoy the ride. We will!!!

Wish You Were Still Here...Jerome Brown

Soo this week we chose to remember an athlete that left a special imprint on the hearts of Philadelphia Eagle fans. Yeah I'm talking about Jerome Brown, the famous beloved defensive tackle who's untimely death united all the fans and supporters at that time. Jerome was born on Feburary 4, 1965, in Brooksville, Florida. He was a talented athlete playing football, baseball and basketball at Parrott Middle School in Brooksville. He was good enough to later letter in all 3 sports at Hernando High school. He earned a scholarship to attend the University of Miami, where as a freshman he was a part of the 1983 National Championship team.
In 1987 Philadelphia drafted Jerome in the first round(9th overall) to come in and start at right defensive tackle, teaming up with his good friend Reggie White. Jerome would go on to play his entire career in Philadelphia for 5 years from 1987 to 1991 earning himself 2 pro bowl selections 1990 and 1991. During this time Buddy Ryan was the head coach and the Birds had a strong reputation as the "Mean Green Eagle Defense." For as much punishment he gave out on the field, Jerome also was known for his generous character. He participated in various community events and seemed to have an obligation to the youth as a positive role model. It was his off the field contributions that made the fans care for him as a person. Brown died on June 25, 1992, at the age of 27, following an automobile accident in Brooksville, Florida in which both he and his nephew, Gus, were killed when Brown lost control of his vehicle. To get a visual of his legacy, the NFL Network is airing a special on Reggie White and Jerome Brown titled "A Football Life" on Thursday Night September 29th 2011 at 10pm. Soo the 'Executioner" is still at it. The old man has been competing at a professional high level for some 23 years now. But what can you say to the 46 year old Light Heavyweight World Champion who recently became the oldest fighter in boxing history by defeating Jean Pascal to win a world title...? Keep going!...Well that's just what this philly native has been scheduled to do in about 2 weeks or so. Bernard Hopkins(52-5-2, 32 KO’s) will face the younger "Bad" Chad Dawson(30-1, 17 KO’s) on Saturday, October 15 at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif. and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 6:00 p.m. PT. The 29 year old challenger Chad Dawson has been considered one of the top fighters for years now, coming from New Haven, Connecticut. Dawson had an impressive start with a 7-1 record in world title fights. Some notable victories were against Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. He lost his belt to Jean Pascal by decision in August of 2010, then rebounded with a win over Adrian Diaconu in May 2001.

Jay-Z Takes Nets To Brooklyn

While the NBA is currently enduring a lockout, one owner is still conducting business as usual. Mr Sean Carter aka Jay-Z; partial owner and face of the New Jersey Nets, recently announced the team would continue to be called the "Nets" after the move to Brooklyn. The team is scheduled to relocate to the Brooklyn borough of New York to begin the 2012 NBA season. The Nets will play their games at the Barclay Center, which is currently under construction. Jay-Z also announced that he will open the Barclay Center with a series of concerts in September of 2012... Jay-Z being at the forefront of this announcement is politics as usual... lol

FEMA Opens 2nd Disaster Recovery Center In Philadelphia...

Soo it appears that hurricane Irene has left significant damage in the Philadelphia area. Residents in the Germantown area can testify that some streets were flooded to a historic height, causing major damage to homes and local businesses including churches..FEMA has come to the rescue, opening their first disaster recovery center in Center City on this past Saturday at the Packard Building
111 S. 15th Street, 3rd floor Philadelphia , PA. The lines were extremely long and many people were frustrated and afraid they might not get helped. More than 800 people showed up for government assistance on fixing their homes. As a result FEMA has now opened a second location at the Belfield Recreation Center 2109 West Chew Avenue in North Philadelphia. Those with insurance, need to contact their insurance agent and file a personal claim before contacting FEMA. Officials in charge recommend that you register before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center, so if you have any concerns about the application process they can be answered face to face. To register for assistance, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Disaster assistance applicants who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY should call 1-800-462-7585 directly. Hours are 10am to 7pm daily. FEMA has $47.2 million available statewide for Pennsylvanians who suffered damage from the storm. Disaster loans from SBA are available up to $200,000 for homeowners to repair or replace disaster damaged or destroyed real estate and up to $40,000 for homeowners or renters to repair or replace disaster damaged or destroyed personal property. Businesses and private non-profit organizations can borrow up to $2 million. Interest rates can be as low as 2.5 percent for homeowners and renters, three percent for non-profit organizations and four percent for businesses. Why Can't They "Tackle" These Issues...?

Soo once again the Philadelphia Eagle fans are left with a few familiar questions. Some fans' questionnaire list may run longer than others, but I think the main questions are consistent in everyones' book. For instance, why cant the Eagles seem to get more touchdowns in the red zone? In the Sunday's game versus the Giants it would appear that the coaching staff just couldn't find the right balance of plays to call once below the 20 yard line. Forcing the Eagles to settle for field goals when the offense was just clicking to advance the ball to the red zone. How about, why cant Mike Vick stay in a game or why is he taking so many hits? Maybe he needs to learn how to slide when a defender is approaching or maybe the offensive line is just that weak. Why wasn't there any deep pass plays? The birds attempted 1 big play down field when back up quarterback Mike Kafka entered the game, which resulted in an interception(lol). As for the defense, a simple person may ask, why cant they make a tackle? Kurt Coleman's missed tackle allowed Victor Cruz to score a 74 yard touchdown, which looked like it gave the Giants some sure confidence that they can move the ball against the birds. One issue the birds did try to tackle on Sunday, was to establish the run game. Mccoy did a great job to keep the score close as he had a big game rushing and receiving. The Eagles are now 1-2 with their starting quarterback hurt with a broken non throwing hand. Will he miss any games, if so how many? Another issue frustrated fans want answers to. During this season your life has become filled with anticipation, joy and pain because you know something exciting and dramatic is bound to happen. On this day its a good chance you may consume a substantial amount of calories, for this is a certified cheat day on your diet. The drinking that takes place has a college binge feel to it, taking all participators on an emotional roller coaster. Normally the end result is an individual laid out in the corner with their mouth open, confined to a comma like sleep. Returning to employment the following day is just not an option...Yes, Im Talking Football Sunday...Welcome!

Did Jayo Felony Commit One???

Jayo Felony recently made the news and its not because he's dropping a new album lol. Felony is being accused of illegally taking over a house, aka "squatting."  The California property, located in the Hollywood Hills, is currently listed on the mortgage foreclosure list. The neighbor's insist Felony broke into the home and moved himself in. Felony claims he is renting the property and did not illegally enter the home. This sounds like the mortgage loop hole scandal we reported over the summer. The loop hole allows for individuals to take ownership of a vacant and foreclosed property, as long as they live there for a period of time. It doesn't appear as though Felony is in violation of this so called crime. It looks like he was a victim of the scandal... You be the judge.

No NBA Season A Real Possibility???

Player reps and owners met yesterday to discuss the options available to end the now, 84 day lockout without cancellations. After the meeting took place yesterday it is believed that the two parties are still far apart on lingering issues. The owners are looking to gain more from the revenue split because of attendance issues league wide. It was reported that the owners lost more than $300 million last season as franchises were not able to fill their arenas on a nightly basis. There are only a few fortunate teams to sellout their games nightly like the: Heat, Celtics and Lakers. The lower end franchises in this leagues can not afford a lockout as they were already struggling in attendance and the die hard fan will begin to lose their passion for the team. Some owners are looking to cash in on their franchise, as Comcast Spectacor did when they recently sold the Philadelphia 76ers to a investment group from New York. I for one look forward to the NBA season, but with the strong possibility of no NBA games we all will need to find a way to fill this void... College basketball anyone lol

Wish You Were Still Here...Guru

Soo in this weeks edition we chose to dedicate the post to a true pioneer of hip-hop music. Born Keith Edward Elam on July 17, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts the "Guru" was a true emcee raised on the sound of original old school hip-hop music. He was a member of the famous group Gang Starr along with DJ Premiere which he founded in 1987. The name Guru is a backronym that stands for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal and the less-often used God is Universal; he is the Ruler Universal, which are both references to the teachings of the Nations of Gods and Earths.  As a group, Gang Starr released their first LP No More Mr. Nice Guy on Wild Pitch Records. They quickly gained public favor as their followers increased. They went on to produce an array of albums in a time when true hip-hop music didn't appeal to mainstream.  While albums like Step In The Arena(1990), Daily Operation(1992), and Hard To Earn (1994) were probably the most remembered amongst the hip hop community, Moment of Truth(1988) and compilation Full Clip: A Decade of Gang Starr(1999) were the group's most successful selling albums both going gold. Guru also seemed to have a strong interest in jazz music, In 1993, Guru released the first his solo jazz albums titled Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 with notable features from Donald Byrd and Roy Ayers. It was the soulful original sound that kept listeners entertained, Guru definitely paved the way for a lot of up and coming conscious emcees.
He left us April 19, 2010 at the age of 48 from cancer. His physical has been laid to rest, but his spirit will live forever through his music. R.I.P Guru, We Wish You Were Still Here...

A Decade Long Blueprint

Its been 10 years since the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001 in NYC. On this same day Jay-Z dropped the Blueprint, a classic album that outlined a road to success for the veteran MC. The Blueprint was the perfect way to "Takeover" the game and trail blaze a new culture of rap music. The album also helped ease the void left behind by influential rappers Biggie and 2 Pac. Troy Davis To Be Executed... But With Doubt

We here in Philly know of a story about a man being accused of a crime and being in prison for several years without concrete evidence to hold him there. The man I speak of is Mumia Abu Jamal, whose story is very similar to Troy Davis. Davis is scheduled to be executed by Georgia laws for a crime he may not have committed. Davis's legal team submitted an appeal to the execution but it was recently denied by the Georgia Pardons and Paroles Board. Mr. Davis feels he has been jailed wrongly since a officer was shot and killed in 1989. A few years back we all heard of Mr Tookie Williams being executed by California's laws for criminal acts while he lead the "Crips" in organized crime in the late 80's early 90's. Williams crimes in the state of California warranted him being executed although he was able to turn his life around in prison and advocate against gang violence. Today advocates for Davis have been protesting and taking to social media to help save the life of a man, who they feel is being wrongly accused.  Should this execution stay without another trial???

Some Injuries Will Just Ruin Your Fantasy...

Soo the Fantasy Football community has been sending in hate mail saying we have totally forgot about them and their daily issues. Forgive us lol..To begin we like to lend our support to all the owners of  Jamaal Charles(torn ACL) and Michael Vick(concussion) for their presence is heavily depended upon. While we took notice, we just couldn't extend our hand to owners of Mario Manningham mainly because we both played this guy this week. His early departure was greatly appreciated. So as for the pain and grief I'm sure some of you felt this Sunday, there is still some light at the end of this tunnel. Charles is long gone, but Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones could still be available for pick up. Thomas is over the hill but still good for goaline carries while Dexter is an explosive option for the offense. Roy Helu from the Redskins put up some nice numbers despite the 20 carriers from Tim Hightower. Delone Carter from the Colts is slowing sneaking in, no real value yet but we all know one injury can change your fantasy future.  As for my dog Vick, his status is still remains uncertain, even if he does start will he be protected?? Why not consider Matt Hassleback for the Titans, good chance hes still available in most leagues, he has been putting up solid numbers for the past 2 weeks. Andy Dalton for the Bengals had a big fantasy day last week and could be used until your starter has returned. Ray-J vs Fab...Who Knocked Who Out???

So we reported earlier that Ray-J was on the radio this morning talking reckless about what he did, and will do to rapper Fabolous. Well rumor has it, Ray-J was in fact the person who was knocked out during this altercation by a two piece combo from Fab. We also hear that 50 Cent instigated the fight by saying "OOOOOH, Fab how are you gonna let him say that to you," after being approached by Ray-J. Also being reported is after Ray-J was hit a third time by Fab, while laying on the ground, his jewelry was taken by bystanders. We hear that the argument between the two parties was over jokes being made about Ray-J singing in Floyd Mayweather's living room on the HBO series 24/7. Supposedly Fabolous and local comedian Kevin Hart poked fun at Ray-J about the episode, on Twitter and Ray-J took offense.

Ray-J and Fabolous Fight In Vegas!!!

Soo a real fight did go down in Vegas over the weekend!!! Supposedley Ray-J punched Fabolous in the face backstage at the Palm resort. It is said that Fabolous was about to hit the stage before he hit the ground lol. The Fall Guy...

Soo did he take the fall along with his 2.5 million dollar purse?. Just an unbelievable controversial finish, many supporters of Ortiz hoped and wished he would have came in the ring just a little bit more polished. From our view Floyd had total control of the fight from the start. As a result, Ortiz appeared to become frustrated late in the 4th round as he tried to head butt Floyd against the ropes. The referee penalized the fighter and sent him back to his corner, immediately after Ortiz attempted to apologize to Floyd several times. This is when this picture became fuzzy. After another slight hug between both fighters Floyd's swings( legally so, but it could have been a sneak) twice and drops Ortiz in a dramatic fashion. So everyone wants know, why the hell didn't this man put his hands up after the first punch(is this not a fighters natural instinct?). You can clearly see Ortiz is looking at the referee as he is getting slugged. Some feel Ortiz got what he deserved, some say after being caught giving the head butt he had already mentally given up. One thing we over here have to say is, shout out to Money Mayweather and his greasy uncle Roger(lol), Dem boyz is good. I think its safe to say Floyd got the drop on Ortiz(lol). We are very tempted to do a separate post on the heated exchange between Mayweather and HBO announcer Larry Merchant. Now that would be a good fight...

Mayweather vs Ortiz Tonight!!!

The highly anticipated fight between Floyd Money Mayweather and Victor Viscous Ortiz is upon us. The winner of tonight's fight will most likely be the next contender to face Manny Pacquiao. Both fighter's training regiments, have been well documented through HBO's series "24/7." Mayweather still talks the most trash as he attempts to play mind games with his opponent until the opening bell. Ortiz is the young, up and coming fighter who is hungry to prove he is the next great champion. This fight sure has the makings of a classic but only time will tell if these prized fighters can save the sport with their performance tonight. Sitting Above The Cloudz...Red Cafe

Soo this rap artist has been putting work in for years...Straight outta Brooklyn '" Red Cafe has been perfecting his craft since the mid 90s, born Jermaine Denny on December 18th 1976 he began his career in a group called Da Franchise with Bed-Stuy artist Gravy(played biggie smalls in the movie Notorious) and Flatbush artist Q Da Kid. Creative differences set each artist on their on paths, Cafe chose to ghostwrite for some of your favorite artists in the game today and stay in the underground circuit. He signed with several major labels over the years, including Arista in 2003 and Capitol Records and RCA but again circumstances prevented his music from going main stream. Fast forward to 2007 Cafe had a somewhat of a productive year releasing his mix tape the Co-Op distributed by Koch Records and signing Akon's label Konvict Muzik. In 2009 he signed to Bad Boy Records his current home. His latest mix tape Above the Cloudz, was released a few months back, check out the tracks "Above The Cloudz" "Mariott" below.

Back 2 The Future Sneaks A Reality???

The illest pair of sneakers every seen in a movie are now a reality... over 20 years later. In "Back 2 The Future II", Michael J. Fox wore what we knew at the time as the "Marty McFly's." Back 2 The Future II was released in 1989, but the "Marty McFly's" where meant for the fictional year "2015." In the movie the sneakers sported lights in the soles and power laces. The new creation of the sneaker will not be able to lace by themselves but the sole will light up. On September 8th, Nike made the "Marty McFly's" available for purchase, for 10 days through Ebay. The auction site was utilized so that everyone could have a fair shot at obtaining the sneakers. 1,500 pairs of the "Nike Air MAGs" are currently being auctioned on Ebay, with bids as high as $37,000.00 a pair. Rappers Kid Cudi and Tinie Tempah have recently won auctions for pairs of the sneakers. Both rappers are said to have paid  five figures for the futuristic looking sneaks. All proceeds generated from the sneakers sold will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Mayor Nutter Goes Sour On A Sweet Deal...

 Soo The Nutter administration rejected grant of an undisclosed amount for anti-obesity programs from the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania. It was reported that the money could be put to good use in health centers. So why not accept  money that will seemingly help a problem Mr Nutty? Maybe because the money comes from a $10 million grant from a foundation created by the soft drink industry. The same industry that battled hard to kill Nutter’s attempts to impose a two-cents-per-ounce tax on soda and other sweetened drinks.  Nutter felt so strong on this issue that he tweeted this statement Tuesday afternoon “Taking money from Big Soda to fight obesity is like taking money from the NRA to fight guns. You can’t buy this City Hall.”  Some members in city council support Nutter, while others disagree with the decision, saying that Nutter is acting out of spite and possibly hypocritical at the same time. Lets remember he has received substantial donations to his own campaign fund from Big Beverage, as recently as this year. He has also received at least two large donations from soda industry lobbies, though both predate his "soda tax." In May 2007, the Phila Coca Cola Employee Good Government PAC donated $2,000 to his campaign. In Oct. 2007, the New York City Pepsi Cola PAC donated $10,000. Hmmnn So just what is the message here..? Is the money good enough for personal gain but not sweet enough for the health of the city..? Please don't keep your opinions bottled up(lol) share with us.

No Deal..No School For Catholic High School Students

Soo 16,000 students will be out of school indefinitely starting today , as teachers in the archdiocese took a stand to walk out of the classrooms today. All of the city's catholic schools will remain closed until a settlement is reached on a labor dispute.  The archdiocese rejected an offer yesterday by the Association of Catholic Teachers, Local 1776, that could of kept the children in school. The union was willing to send its teachers back to work, if the archdiocese would allow a mediator to come in and assist resolving the labor dispute. The archdiocese has been quite stubborn on the issue of a mediator, for they had rejected the notion twice before. The mediation discussion began when Patrick J. Eiding, president of the Philadelphia Council of the AFL-CIO, sent a letter to both sides. If mediation was accepted, Eiding said he would encourage teachers to return to work under provisions of the contract that expired Aug. 31 while talks continued. Rita Schwartz, president of the teachers' union, said she supports Eiding proposal, and the closing of the schools laid in the hands of the archdiocese. The 711 lay teachers have been forming picket lines outside their schools in two shifts between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Their position is, they do not agree with proposed changes in working conditions and were concerned about job security and the archdiocese's intent to use more part-time instructors. So now what...has the archdiocese become too bull headed? Will the students drift into criminal activity during the day simply because they now have the time to?  We wanna hear your opinion especially if you are a parent. Fifteen years ago today, legendary rapper/actor Tupac Shakur lost his life in Las Vegas after complications from gun shot wounds. "Pac" was a influential player in the "Rap" game, with a unique style and delivery. Shakur was also a solid actor with memorable roles in: Juice, Above the Rim and Poetic Justice. In a previous post it was stated that there are talks of a "biopic" film about Shakur's life;produced by Elton Brand's(76ers) film company.

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), known by his stage names 2Pac (or simply Pac) and Makaveli, was an American rapperand actor. Shakur has sold over 75 million albums worldwide as of 2007,[1] making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Rolling Stone Magazine named him the 86th Greatest Artist of All Time.[2]
In addition to his career as a rap artist, he was also an actor.[3] The themes of most of Tupac's songs are the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, other social problems, and conflicts with other rappers during the East Coast – West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur began his career as a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.[4][5][6]
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Nevada. He was taken to the University Medical Center, where he died 6 days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.[7]

Now this union we have here will definitely raise some eyebrows. Maybe because many people feel that where there is smoke there is fire, and if you caught some scenes between Marc and Jada on the Hawthorne series you felt the heat too(lol).  Maybe things got too hot between the two on the set, because we do know now that J-LO has taken a break from her hubby and Jada's series has been cancelled for the rest of the season. No real evidence has yet to surface of the so-called relationship. Soooo is it Coincidence? Well followers seem to be puzzled at this photo with Will Smith and Marc Anthony together last night at the Miami Dolphins season opener accompanied by Dwayne Wade. Doesn't seem like Will has any animosity towards this man, actually looks proud to be with him. So where is Jada? Shouldn't she be at the party too if every thing is all good??...

Amazon Has Plans To Launch Digital Library...

So Seattle based Amazon.com Inc is in heavy talks with book publishers to launch a Netflix Inc like service for digital books, in which customers would pay an annual fee to access a library of content. There is nothing confirmed and reporters are not sure how close both parties are to a deal.  However it was reported that a few publishing executives said they are not overly excited about the idea because they believe it could decrease the value of books and also strain their relationships with other retailers that sell their books.  Just the idea of this proposal is yet another sign, that the Internet is becoming the base tool to feed information. I guess its no secret as readers are now looking to get their material from the net, as traditional bookstores and library notice the decrease in their traffic(Check the Borders Is Closing post in the archives for additional info).  Are u ready to go totally digital to purchase your reading material...Can we expect society to offer all services and products online?

With the NBA still in a lockout, the date, time and place has been set by the organizers of the Philly vs D.C./B-More game. The game will be played in Philly at the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra on Sunday, September 25th at 6pm. It is confirmed that Team Philly will include Hakim Warrick (Phoenix Suns), Markieff Morris (Phoenix Suns), Marcus Morris (Houston Rockets), Lou Williams (Sixers), Kyle Lowry (Houston Rockets), John Salmons (Sacramento Kings), Wayne Ellington (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jason Thompson (Sacramento Kings), former NBA player Flip Murray and Philly street ball legend Aaron “AO” Owens. Also confirmed is Team Melo's squad which will include Anthony, Josh Selby (Memphis Grizzlies), Donte Greene (Sacramento Kings), Gary Neal (San Antonio Spurs), Eric Bledsoe (Los Angeles Clippers) and “more surprises." Rahim Thompson ,commissioner of The Chosen League in Philly, organized the game and announced the details via Twitter. Also made availble were ticket prices which will be $35 for upper level seats and $50 for lower level seats. The tickets will go on sale next Tuesday at the Palestra and online, according to Thompson.

Update To Current Post: Lebron "King" James, Chris "cp3" Paul and Kevin Durant will play with Carmelo Anthony on the D.C./B-More squad... There are rumors that Kobe Bryant will play for the Philly Squad. This is a major event in the making!!!

Philadelphia's Battle Of Brotherly Love...

 

Let the ballers battle, Again!! Come one, Come all to witness the 4th Annual Battle Of  Brotherly Love basketball tournament held at Neuman Goretti High School in South Philly brought to you by Urban Legends Promotions.  Here the best high school players from every hood and surrounding areas are coming out to showcase their talent in this high impact street ball thriller. The dates are set for September 17th -18th 2011. First game starts on Saturday at 1:30pm, County vs W.Philly, then you have N.Philly vs S.Philly directly after at 3pm. The Consolation game will be held on Sunday at 4pm followed the Championship Game at 6pm. As expected, last year's tournament lived up to all the hype, and hype is an understatement. Every game was intense as the crowd was filled with animated supporters from neighborhood celebrities to college scouts and reps from the top sneakers companies. Defense was and will definitely be a top priority, being that at any given time any player can get yanked(crossed over) or if he's not careful he could be the victim of a vicious highlight dunk. One player in particular made sure he gave out his share of punishment, Rysheed Jordan a 6"4" point guard then a sophomore from Vaux High School who rose to the top of competition earning himself the MVP as North Philly took home the title.  After an impressive summer he currently ranked 25th in the nation in his junior class. The runners up in the championship game were the ballers from West Philly with 6 future division 1 players on their roster. So of course the tension has been rising ever since. This year will feature some new talent, for every team boasts that they have the right chemistry to prevail. Players are taking this game serious with hundreds of tweets and facebook messages being sent each month. Your reputation is all you got here... For additional information you can contact the the founders of the tournament Jamil Abdul Malik(267-239-3113), Donte Adolphues(267-269-1158) and Chris Clayton. They have done a great job spreading the word and preparing the spectators for a competitive atmosphere. Check out the highlight reel from last year's tournament. Jabril Trawick currently a freshman at Georgetown University, at the off guard spot and is expected to recieve some meaningful minutes, played in the tournament last year for West Philly.  He is still excited about the event and he plans to attend. Will His $300 Billion Plan "Work" For You...?

He had to come with something sooner than later. People's pockets are full of hope while their mail boxes are full of bills. The continuous talk of a deep recession floods every network man can get to. Tight spending plus fearful investors plus a 9.1 unemployment rate equals a dark grim economy. Resembling Gotham City. Far from Batman, but your man, Barack Hussein Obama is putting on his black suit, and is coming to save the economy tomorrow night at 7pm EDT(lol). He is planning to deliver a speech where he tells the public where the $300 billion will go and why. Its a lot to this plan so we chose not to tell all in the post rather let you read for yourself, so you can detail and analyze the facts and prepare to listen on how he explains each topic. Politics Or Policy...?

Soo its been a little over 2 weeks now, and the Axerman(lol) case still lingers to listening ears.  She has been ranting and raving pleading her case in news articles as well as on radio shows on how she was a victim of a double double standard(race and gender) blasting CFO Michael Masch and Mayor Michael Nutter. Well this plot thickens because apparently the separation agreement says Ackerman may not make public comments "or disseminate any private or confidential information" about the SRC or senior members of the district's administration that are "malicious, wanton, or reckless," or could  "reasonably foreseeable to injure their reputations. Will she even receive  her so called "hush money?"  If you have been following this story as I have, you are left with a bad taste in your mouth. Not that you have picked sides but you just want clear cut answers!  So whats the facts...or in this case "stated facts". We knew that since her arrival 3 years ago  there have been gains in test scores, a 29% decline in violence, a 7% gain in the graduation rate, and the implementation of Parent University, where more than 40,000 parents took courses in the past three years. Not to mention she was just given a contract extension thru 2014 a few month back. Maybe the accusations of a $600 million budget shortfall, and a general unwillingness to compromise was grounds to get her removed.  The all day kindergarten-funding solution definitely ruffled some feathers with Mayor Nutter and could have been the last straw, but we still cant get direct answers. So did Arlene decline the invitation to play the game of Politics or did the SRC follow standard policy and procedure to remove an unfit candidate for the position??

Eddie Murphy To Host The Oscars???

The comedic legend Eddie Murphy will be the host of the 84th annual Academy Awards (The Oscars) ceremony.  Murphy was chosen by Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, the producers of the annual awards show, which highlights the top actors and actresses in show business. This is high praise for a African-American man to host this prestigious event. Murphy is a well decorated actor with several movies earning top gross, including his role in the animated movie series "Shrek" where he is the voice of the hilarious "Donkey." Eddie was last nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for his supporting role in "Dreamgirls." Murphy said in a statement Tuesday that he is "enormously honored" to join the ranks of past Academy Awards hosts such as Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Steve Martin and Whoopi Goldberg. I personally don't care much for the Oscars but I will be viewing the event this year, as Murphy will be the first African-American male to host the show.

Did Katt Williams Take It Too Far???

The self proclaimed pimp of comedy is in hot water for making racial comment during a performance last week in Phoenix, AZ. The comments made by Williams were directed at a Mexican heckler from the crowd who said "f@?k America." After receiving backlash from folks who viewed his comments on YouTube, Katt apologized for the supposed racist remarks through his publicist. The comedian then recently stated on CNN that he actually wasn't sorry for making the remarks and in fact, meant every word. Williams stated that he was defending and being a patriot of his country. Katt made the comments below during his show last week.

"Do you remember when white people used to say 'Go back to Africa,' and we'd have to tell them we don't want to? So if you love Mexico, [expletive], get the [expletive] over there...We were slaves [expletive.] You just work like that as landscapers."

Was Katt Williams doing what most comedians do, which is use the audience as part of the routine or was he down right wrong for making those comments??? You be the judge.

A Good Place To Roll Up...

Some hoped this day would come,some just knew this day would come, Where you can actually walk with Mary Jane down the street and not worry about authorities.(lol) The International Cannabis and Hemp Expo is making its way to downtown Oakland, California for the nation's first ever marijuana street fair. Directly in front of City Hall! Starting today at noon the festival is scheduled to run on September 3rd and 4th 2011. The requirements are that you have to have a medical license to use the drug in public. The festival will feature an eclectic mix of speakers, music and info booths. People inside the so-called "215 area" -- for 1996's Proposition 215, which legalized medical marijuana in California, the first state in the union to recognize the plant's medicinal value -- will be able to smoke and eat their kush of choice. Though no marijuana will be for sale. Only paying adults will be allowed inside and tickets start at $20. This event probably seems strange and unethical to the majority of East coast residents, but if you have visited California you'll see that its a part of many peoples life style.
